My Review
Come Back to Me, by Jody Hedlund, is the first book in the Waters of Time series. With scenes set in
present-day England as well as in England in the late fourteenth
century, it is a clever, intriguing novel that is truly entertaining
from the first page to the last. Captivating and gripping, this book of
time travel, danger, uncertainty, and hope is full of interesting
characters and immersive settings. Featuring the perfect blend of
mystery, romance, history, and surprises, this novel is genuinely unique
and special.
As an experienced writer, Jody Hedlund excels at descriptive storytelling, and her imagination and creativity are certainly evident throughout this book. From beginning to end, this novel is well-written, well-researched, emotionally engaging, and thought-provoking. Scene by scene, Ms. Hedlund skillfully builds and maintains levels of tension and suspense that ensure a thrilling reading experience. Furthermore, the settings are thoughtfully detailed with sensory elements that bring a fresh perspective to places and events in both the past and the present.
From the moment they are introduced, the characters are original, expressive, authentically vulnerable, and memorable. Their motivations, fears, and choices are believable and touching. The characters’ pursuit of healing and redemption is made even more meaningful by the moments of romance within the story that add an unexpected depth of tenderness and purpose.
