My Review

I think I may have read my new favorite Jen Turano book! A Lesson in Propriety is the first book in The Merriweather Academy for Young Ladies series, and it is absolutely delightful! This historical romance novel is exceptionally clever and wholly entertaining. Featuring charismatic characters, plenty of twists, romantic surprises, and goats, this novel is utterly unique. From beginning to end, it is well-written and very endearing.

Ms. Turano is a talented storyteller who has a knack for placing her characters in unconventional and outrageous situations. These situations are often filled with humor that requires the characters to act in unexpected ways. The characters themselves are also very likable, and their personal idiosyncrasies are quite memorable. As they navigate a variety of challenges, their motivations and desires become very touching. Furthermore, unforgettable dialogue throughout the novel uplifts a refreshingly original plot and makes this book truly compelling.

A Lesson in Propriety is a genuinely special novel. From Ms. Turano’s singular writing style flows a storyline that is certainly appealing. Moments of comedy, intrigue, and romance make this book very engaging. It is a thoughtfully-written story of purpose, and inclusion. It is a creative and uplifting novel, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
