Publisher's Book Description

“A missing woman. Two hit men. When every second counts, who will survive?

In the stark but beautiful wilds of northern New Mexico, a couples' retreat at a luxury resort turns into a chilling nightmare when a woman vanishes. Skip tracer Riley MacLeod and private investigator Greyson Chadwick pose as a couple to hunt for clues that might reveal the missing woman's location. Those leads uncover a harrowing truth: They're not the only ones looking for her. What begins as a normal tracking case turns into a deadly chase when they, too, become the hunted.

As Riley and Greyson work together, their partnership ignites a tumultuous attraction, but Greyson's secrets prevent him from acting on his feelings for her, and Riley can't bring herself to fully trust him. Delving deeper into the case, they find themselves fighting not only for justice and the chance at a loving relationship . . . but also for their very survival.”

My Review

Two Seconds Too Late, by Dani Pettrey, is a truly riveting novel! This second book in the Jeopardy Falls series offers a thrilling mix of mystery, suspense, action, faith, and romance. Page after page, this novel offers fast-paced entertainment and gripping drama. But Two Seconds Too Late is more than a story of romance and suspense. It also shines with an emphasis on healing, friendship, and second chances.

With the added complications of the weather extremes found in the deserts and mountains of New Mexico, the Southwestern setting enriches the plot and contributes to the authenticity of the story’s perilous elements. The vibrant characters also make this book special. Throughout the novel, they show themselves to be relatable, likable, smart, and interesting. Their capacity for resilience, perseverance, and courage is quite moving. As the characters struggle with difficult and dangerous events, they move closer to the wholeness and healing they need from the events of their past. Their faith and trust grows stronger as they discover that true hope is found in the promises of God and in the love and support of friends. Furthermore, the layered plot is detailed and engaging with threads of mystery and intrigue that are especially compelling particularly as investigative clues and suspect motivations are revealed.

Ms. Pettrey is a gifted writer who excels at crafting satisfying stories that are filled with unexpected moments and surprising twists. With its integral setting, perceptive characters, and captivating plot, Two Seconds Too Late is certainly an engrossing novel. Its themes of adversity, courage, faith, perseverance, and redemption add depth and meaning to a memorable story that uplifts while it entertains. Two Seconds Too Late is a book I recommend to all readers who enjoy clean, suspenseful, romantic fiction. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!
