Publisher's Book Description

“In the high country of Colorado, hardships are a given, but love has a way of overcoming all the losses.

Millionaire heiress, Genevieve Hollis, has everything she wants except one thing, freedom, because her guardian stepmother insists on overseeing every move she makes. When Genevieve sees a newspaper advertisement from a rancher seeking a mother for his baby, she jumps at the chance to escape, even if that means hiding her true identity.

Ryder Oakley has suffered the repeated misfortune of losing the people he loves most, so now that he’s a single father with a newborn baby, he’s determined not to lose his son. When a woman shows up in answer to his advertisement, he quickly forms a marriage of convenience—one without all the entanglements of a real relationship.

Attraction starts to grow between the newly married couple, but the secrets of their pasts threaten to catch up to them. Ryder finds himself in a custody battle over his baby, and Genevieve struggles to outwit her stepmother. Will they be able to overcome the odds and find a way to be together before it’s too late?”

My Review

A Wife for the Rancher, by Jody Hedlund, is the third book in the High Country Ranch series. Set in the late nineteenth century in Colorado, this novel is everything a reader could want in a marriage-of-convenience story. Filled with compelling characters and romantic tension, this story is both touching and engaging. Plenty of drama, intrigue, courage, and love, make this western, historical romance very entertaining and memorable.

Well-written with descriptive details that hold the reader’s interest and imagination, this novel features a captivating plot with elements of danger, romantic twists, and second chances. This book also includes characters who are sympathetic and distinct. Not only do they face significant insecurities and uncertainties throughout the story, but they also grapple with the challenges that come from loss, betrayal, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Often, these characters are motivated to make choices and take actions that are unexpected and thought-provoking making this novel quite moving.

A satisfying reading experience from the first page to the last, A Wife for the Rancher is a worthy installment in the High Country Ranch series. With an abundance of heart and inspiration, this novel is genuinely special. I eagerly recommend it, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series!
