Publisher's Book Description
Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.
Clara Blackwell helps her mother manage a struggling
one-hundred-year-old family bookshop in Asheville, North Carolina, but
the discovery of a forgotten letter opens a mystery of a long-lost
romance and undiscovered inheritance which could save its future. Forced
to step outside of her predictable world, Clara embarks on an adventure
with only the name Oliver as a hint of the man’s identity in her
great-great-grandmother’s letter. From the nearby grand estate of the Vanderbilts,
to a hamlet in Derbyshire, England, Clara seeks to uncover truth about
family and love that may lead to her own unexpected romance.”
My Review
Whether in Asheville, North Carolina, or in a quaint village in The Lake District in the United Kingdom, this novel is rich in setting and meaning. From the palatial library in the Biltmore House at the turn of the twentieth century, to the independent book shop endeavoring to stay relevant in a contemporary world, this novel beckons the reader into a realm defined by stories, imagination, history, and purpose.
With
clever pacing, relevant details are uncovered, and a
one-hundred-year-old mystery begins to reveal itself, exposing truths
that have been hidden for several decades on two different continents.
The captivating plot shifts effortlessly between two points in time
while successfully connecting scenes of uncertainty, loss, longing,
romance, friendship, hope, and redemption. The well-researched details,
immersive settings, memorable characters, and wistful prose ensure that
reading this novel is a worthwhile experience.
Once
again, Ms. Basham affirms that her talent as a storyteller is
unquestionable. This novel offers an intriguing mystery blended
effortlessly with elements of sweet romance. It is altogether
enjoyable. Hope Between the Pages is a compelling novel from the first page to the last, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.
