Publisher's Description

"Lauren Bailey may be a romantic at heart, but after a decade of matchmaking schemes gone wrong, there's only one match she's committed to now--the one that will make her a mother. Lauren is a dedicated first-grade teacher in Idaho, and her love for children has led her to the path of international adoption. To satisfy her adoption agency's requirements, she gladly agreed to remain single for the foreseeable future; however, just as her long wait comes to an end, Lauren is blindsided by a complication she never saw coming: Joshua Avery.

Joshua may be a substitute teacher by day, but Lauren finds his passion for creating educational technology as fascinating as his antics in the classroom. Though she does her best to downplay the undeniable connection between them, his relentless pursuit of her heart puts her commitment to stay unattached to the test and causes her once-firm conviction to waver.

With an impossible decision looming, Lauren might very well find herself choosing between the two deepest desires of her heart . . . even if saying yes to one means letting go of the other."

My Review

Before I Called You Mine, by Nicole Deese, is a stunning work of contemporary fiction.  Abounding with heart, authenticity, and true vulnerability, this novel is nearly flawless. With an emotionally-stirring plot and compelling characters, this book is thoroughly engaging from the first page to the last.

Though not a typical love story, this book is most certainly an unforgettable tale of love. The love God holds for every human soul, the love that is shared in families, the love that blooms between a man and a woman, the love that nurtures friendships, and the love that connects the heart of a mother with that of her child are all various threads of love that Ms. Deese intricately weaves throughout this novel. With boldness softened by grace, the author reveals her extraordinary writing talent as she thoughtfully develops a storyline that explores the commitment, sacrifices, set-backs, blessings, and joys that are the very framework of international adoption. Utterly immersive in its style and profoundly moving in its scope, this novel envelops the reader in a relevant story that is wholly life-changing.

Achingly beautiful, uplifting, and truly memorable, Before I Called You Mine, is a meaningful novel that inspires even as it entertains. With genuine hope, it beckons the reader to venture into the difficult spaces of obedience, purpose, and calling that yield the greatest rewards. From beginning to end, it is everything a great novel should be. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
