When her adopted father returns from town with news regarding the imminence of war, Emmeline has no wish to join the rebellion against King Ethelwulf.

Prince Ethelrex, the strongest warrior in the land, has done everything he can to prove his loyalty to his father, including searching for the last lost princess. When Ethelrex finally captures Emmeline, the king commands his son to marry the princess in order to win the support of the people and undermine the rebellion.

Forced into marriage, Emmeline has one goal—to escape. My Review

Hereafter, by Jody Hedlund, is the final book in the Lost Princesses series. With sweeping adventure and heartwarming romance, this young adult novel is as exciting as it is charming. Beautifully written and utterly captivating, this book offers a thrilling and truly satisfying conclusion to a fantastic, medieval series.

Beginning with the very first page, Hereafter transports the reader to a world that is full of danger and intrigue. From a secluded cottage deep in the woods, to the spacious rooms of a castle, to the perilous chambers of an ancient labyrinth, Ms. Hedlund reveals her extraordinary skills for creating settings that are intensely alluring. And the characters in this book are just as striking. With relevant motivations and earnest desires, they are thoroughly compelling. Their willingness to endure uncertainty, to persevere through hardships, and to find purpose in their trials is inspiring. With a riveting plot that abounds with legends and mythical elements, this story is very enthralling, memorable, and special.

Ms. Hedlund has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her books never fail to inspire my spirit and thrill my heart. Hereafter is no exception. From beginning to end, this novel is a genuine joy to read. Truly, the entire Lost Princesses series is remarkable and worthy of attention and sincere praise. It is a pleasure for me to recommend Hereafter as well as the other books in the series.

My Reflection

Wisdom, faith, self-sacrifice, and courage are important themes running through each of the books in the Lost Princesses series. As these traits develop and grow within the characters, their importance is revealed. Being wise, faithful, selfless, and courageous is powerful, life-changing, and exceedingly more valuable than physical beauty or treasures of gold. Page after page, these themes serve to uplift and edify the reader. They add depth and meaning to the stories ensuring that they are a source of inspiration as well as entertainment.

About the Author

“Jody Hedlund is the author of over twenty historicals for both adults and teens and is the winner of numerous awards including the Christy, Carol, and Christian Book Award.

Jody lives in central Michigan with her husband, five busy children, and five spoiled cats. Although Jody prefers to experience daring and dangerous adventures through her characters rather than in real life, she's learned that a calm existence is simply not meant to be (at least in this phase of her life!).

When she's not penning another of her page-turning stories, she loves to spend her time reading, especially when it also involves consuming coffee and chocolate
