*I was given a copy of this book from the publisher. A review was not required. The review I have written contains opinions that are entirely my own.
My ReflectionPrayer and its importance in the life of a Christian believer is a poignant thematic thread running gently throughout The Number of Love. I am particularly encouraged by the myriad ways in which prayer is presented in this novel. Within the pages of this book, there are prayers that are memorized and recited, prayers that are whispered, prayers that are thought silently, and prayers formed from words or even numbers. There are prayers recited in church, prayers lifted at home, and prayers offered at work. There are prayers said during moments of peace as well as during moments of danger. There are prayers that are lengthy and prayers that consist of only a single word. There are prayers of faith, prayers of doubt, prayers of anger, prayers of need, prayers of healing, and prayers of forgiveness. There are easy prayers and difficult prayers. Yet even so, in comfort and in pain, in faith and in disbelief, the characters press on in prayer placing value on the connection that prayer nurtures between themselves and their God. Many novels entertain. Some novels point to the power of prayer. The Number of Love is a novel that does both exceedingly well.
