Romantic Suspense Book Review: Flash Point

Publisher's Description

"Directionally-challenged architect Sarah Brockman never thought getting lost on the way to a job site would put her life in danger. When the man who helps her out goes missing, Sarah is the last one that saw him. But her attempts to help the police thrust her into a series of events that could cost her—and those close to her—everything.

Fire Captain Joe Romero is navigating personnel problems on his squad as well as a woman from his past who has come back to haunt him. But he has let too many things get in the way of his pursuit of Sarah. And now that she is in danger, he’ll stop at nothing to protect her. Even if it comes with a big price.

With Sarah’s architectural firm and Joe’s career at risk, they must learn to trust each other completely if they want to find the man trying to burn down everything dear to Sarah. But can they discover his identity in time? Or will they lose everything, including each other?

My Review

Flash Point, by JL Crosswhite, is the second book in the Hometown Heroes series. With a great mix of mystery, suspense, action, faith, and romance, this contemporary fiction novel is truly thrilling to read.

Descriptive and real, the Southern California setting is relevant and contributes to the authentic feel of the story. But it is the development of the characters throughout the novel that makes this book shine. The characters are relatable, they are likable, and they make the story sparkle with warmth. The engrossing plot of the novel is well-paced and thoroughly engaging wrapping the reader in the thoughts, feelings, and motivations of the characters themselves. Like the blue flames of a driftwood fire, the themes of adversity, faith, perseverance, redemption, and romance dance together to illuminate a relatable story that uplifts while it also entertains.

With its endearing characters and intriguing plot, Flash Point easily captured my attention from the first chapter to the last. JL Crosswhite is a talented author with a true gift for compelling story-telling. Flash Point is a book I can easily recommend to all readers who enjoy clean, suspenseful romantic fiction.

My Reflection

Flash Point offers more than a mere spark of romance and suspense. It also shines with an emphasis on forgiveness, grace, and perseverance. As the characters grapple with difficult events, they also search for wholeness, purpose, and meaning within their choices and dreams. Their faith and trust grows stronger as they discover that true security is found in the promises of God and in the love and support of friends and family.

About the Author: JL Crosswhite

"Ordinary people. Extraordinary circumstances. Extra-ordinary God. The first two sentences don't necessarily have good outcomes without the third.

Some days life is just hard. The kids are screaming. The house is a mess. Your boss wants a report yesterday. The fridge is empty. The sink is overflowing. You forgot to pay a bill. Your Facebook feed is full of other people's vacation photos, gourmet meals, and cute shoes.

It's overwhelming.

And when we're overwhelmed, maybe we don't always respond to life with serenity and grace.

It's time to take a break. Pick up a book and join someone else's world for a while. Books last longer than a fancy coffee drink and can take you to anywhere in the world and to any time period.

Most of us are ordinary people. We won't be mentioned in history books. Documentary films won't be made about our lives. A film crew won't follow us through out our days. But that doesn't mean we aren't extraordinary.

Each of us has a unique purpose and reason for being on this planet, whether we know it or not, whether we can see it or not over the mounds of bills, dirty laundry, piles of dishes.

But sometimes we need someone to show us the way. Heroes and heroines who live life a bit bigger than we do, though not necessarily by their choice.

So take a break for a moment. Grab a few quiet moments and your favorite drink and read about women and men as ordinary as you. Who may or may not recognize that they are in some extraordinary circumstances.

And see what happens.

As for me, my favorite thing is discovering how much there is to love about America the Beautiful and the great outdoors. I'm an Amazon bestselling author, a mom to two navigating the young adult years while battling my daughter's juvenile arthritis, exploring the delights of my son's autism, and keeping gluten free. A California native who's spent significant time in the Midwest, I'm thrilled to be back in the Golden State. Follow me on social media to see all my adventures and how I get inspired for my books!

I look forward to hearing from you! Please be in touch." --Biography from JL Crosswhite's author page on Amazon.com
