Inspirational Nonfiction Book Review: Be the Hands and Feet

Publisher's Description

"New York Times bestselling author and world-renowned motivational speaker Nick Vujicic is known worldwide as the man without arms and legs who personifies a "can do" spirit.  Now in greater detail, he explains how the example of Jesus Christ motivates him to travel and speak broadly because the"good news" of the Gospel is just too good to keep quiet!  Although the world has so many problems, no challenge is too great for the God who promises to move mountains. Using compelling stories from his own experience, Nick shares the heart of his message, the motivation behind all he does, and something that he believes the world needs now more than ever before: A faith in Jesus Christ that moves people to act and make the world a better place."

My Review

Be the Hands and Feet: Living Out God’s Love for All His Children is an inspiring and uplifting autobiographical book in which the author, Nick Vujicic, shares personal examples of how he and several of his friends have endeavored to bring the good news of Jesus to people all over the world. By detailing how his own physical challenges have strengthened his faith and led him to pursue his evangelistic calling in Christ, Mr. Vujicic challenges readers to believe wholeheartedly that they too have been called by God to bring the light of the Gospel into a dark world.

By presenting a fresh perspective on the “Great Commission”, Mr. Vujicic encourages readers to use the resources God has given them to serve and love others boldly in creative and unexpected ways. Mr. Vujicic offers personal insight and practical ideas that readers can easily use to share the message of Jesus’ salvation more effectively and intentionally. Abounding with grace and encouragement, the stories, reflections, ideas, and tips included in this book are extremely worthwhile and motivating for anyone who desires to make the most of the time and talents they have been given as they strive to share their faith authentically and sincerely with others.

Be the Hands and Feet is a book that I can easily recommend. It challenges, encourages, and inspires Christ-followers to pursue the Great Commission with purpose, courageously sharing the unconditional love of Jesus with those in need of hope and redemption.

My Reflection

I was particularly encouraged by Mr. Vujicic’s emphasis on the Great Commission being for all Christians in all denominations. It was extremely thought-provoking to consider his ideas on how effective the various Christian denominations could be if they purposefully worked together in harmony to serve those in need in their communities. It was inspiring to consider the potential benefits of various Christian churches intentionally combining their diverse resources to pursue the shared goal of reaching the lost with the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. It was refreshing to be reminded that the Great Commission is for all churches and all Christ-followers, and that the methods and opportunities for sharing the good news of Jesus are continuing to expand and grow.

About the Author

"Nick Vujicic is an Australian Christian evangelist and motivational speaker born with Phocomelia, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of legs and arms. As a child, he struggled mentally and emotionally as well as physically, but eventually came to terms with his disability. He presents motivational speeches worldwide which focus on living with disabilities and finding hope and meaning in life.

Despite issues with bullying and depression during his childhood, Vujicic thrived in his teenage and young adult years. During secondary school, he was elected vice captain of Runcorn State High School in Queensland and worked with the student council on fundraising events for local charities and disability campaigns. After his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severe disability when he was seventeen, he started to give talks at his prayer group and later founded his non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs. He has also founded a motivational speaking company, Attitude Is Altitude."  -- From Nick Vujicic's author page on Amazon.com
