Publisher's Book Description

"Montana Detective Trevor West is desperate to learn what happened to his sister, who went missing in Alaska over a year ago, leaving nothing but a few photographs as clues to her whereabouts. At the advice of Police Chief Autumn Long, Trevor enlists the help of an experienced bush pilot. If Carrie James can't help him find the places in the photographs, no one can.

But Carrie has her own agenda. Grieving the death of her closest friend and the only person she could trust, Carrie will help Trevor find his sister on one condition--that he help her track down her friend's killer.

As the two close in on the answers they crave, they'll face dangers and connections they could not have imagined. They'll have to learn to trust one another--and face the dark secrets of the past--if they are ever to discover the truth and bring a killer to justice."

My Review

Shadows at Dusk, by Elizabeth Goddard, is the second book in the Missing in Alaska series. From beginning to end, this entertaining book is filled with a thrilling combination of mystery, suspense, action, faith, and romance. Enriched by vivid storytelling, this book features a captivating setting, compelling characterization, and a gripping plot.

In Shadows at Dusk, Ms. Goddard uses remote towns, bodies of water, dark caves, and forested Alaskan mountains to infuse the story with both danger and beauty. These settings are not only detailed and descriptive, but they are also essential to the story. Page after page, they add an increased sense of uncertainty and precariousness to each scene.

Interacting well within the setting are the characters who also make this book quite special. They are skilled, perceptive, and tenacious as they encounter significant threats in their search to find answers for their loved ones. While they grapple with events and choices from their past and present, they begin to evaluate their motivations and their own insecurities. The story grows more riveting and meaningful as the characters begin to find the answers they need while clinging to the hope they have for their future.

Shadows at Dusk is certainly a well-crafted novel that is very dynamic and engaging. Ms. Goddard effectively combines terrific settings, characters, and plot into an especially exciting book. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
