Publisher's Book Description

"Julia Monroe has just turned forty and has high hopes for a fresh start after the last decade of her life abruptly left her a young widow and a single mom. With both her boys off to college, she can finally focus on expanding her New Orleans-based cleaning business. Julia is ready for new beginnings--but God has other plans. Samuel Reed, the ruggedly handsome Green Beret who shattered her heart over twenty years ago, has returned to town and is the kind of distraction she never saw coming.

After their first interaction in years leaves her mind spinning and her emotions out of control, Julia knows she needs to avoid him if she wants any chance of preventing history from repeating itself, but her meddling best friend keeps throwing them together. And now it seems inevitable that the man who was hard to forget might just be impossible to resist."

My Review

Julia Monroe Begins Again, by Rebekah Millet, is a delightfully witty contemporary novel full of heartwarming scenes and plenty of sweet romance. From beginning to end, this book offers a satisfying blend of drama, emotion, and humor. With characters who are authentic and vulnerable, and a setting that is altogether engaging, this book is truly enjoyable. Featuring relevant themes of family, forgiveness, and second chances, this story is genuinely touching and thoughtful.

New Orleans is the ideal setting for a novel that captivates with moving story elements like good friends, complex family dynamics, small business opportunities, and fresh starts. A quaint book and bakery shop is the opportune place for many important scenes. Add various homes and a church, and there are several meaningful spaces from which the story can easily unfold.

The appealing characters in this book are also quite special. Though they experience heartache and uncertainty, they dare to take risks, share their vulnerabilities, and overcome their insecurities. With honesty, perseverance, and courage, they endeavor to heal from hurt and rejection as they pursue wholeness and acceptance. They learn the value of faith, forgiveness, and trust as they pursue their hearts’ desires.

Ms. Millet’s debut novel is a stunning achievement! She has succeeded in writing a story that is uplifting and very entertaining. Julia Monroe Begins Again is certainly memorable and inspiring. It is a terrific novel that is very worthwhile, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.
