Publisher's Book Description

“After years away, Astrid Nilsson has returned home to Colorado, hoping to become Fairplay’s second doctor . . . and to find healing for her reoccurring consumption. Spirited and independent, Astrid doesn’t want her illness to be a burden to those she loves, so she has resisted getting serious about any man.

As the current doctor of Fairplay, Logan Steele is seeking to hire a male physician to take over his clinic after he goes back East. When Astrid, his childhood sweetheart, insists that she’s the one for the job, he offers her a bargain she can’t refuse: pretend to court him to appease his mother and he’ll give her the doctor position on a trial basis.

Astrid accepts the arrangement even though she’s reluctant to be in a sham relationship with a man who’d once broken her heart. She tries to keep herself from falling for Logan again but soon finds herself getting much more than she bargained for. With the clock ticking for both of them, can they commit to real love before it’s too late?”

My Review

Committing to the Cowgirl, by Jody Hedlund, is the first book in the new Colorado Cowgirls series. Filled with plenty of drama and sweet romance, this historical western is truly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. From the opening paragraph to the final sentence, this novel is rich in descriptive details, compelling settings, captivating characters, and a riveting storyline.

Taking place in the wide-open land of the Colorado Territory in the late 19th century, the settings of this novel are thoughtfully described and well-integrated into the story. From a cold creek in a wooded area, to a growing mountain town, to spacious homes and ranches, to a small attic room, the settings serve as the perfect environment for the characters in this book as they pursue their goals, recognize past hurts and insecurities, face their fears, and nurture their faith. Throughout the book, these characters are memorable and authentic. Their hopes and concerns are relatable and moving. Their motivations and the plot details that flow from them are quite engrossing and meaningful too, as relevant themes such as equality, courage, compassion, truth, trust, and forgiveness add depth to a story that is truly compelling.

Committing to the Cowgirl abounds with history, romance, drama, and heart. It is truly an engaging, well-written, and special novel. I recommend it wholeheartedly, and I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
